Do you know or don’t you

I saw Jaane Tu ya Jaane Na the other day and came away with that warm fuzzy feeling that one has whenever somebody sees a romantic types ka film. But there was something wrong in the movie. Something so very wrong that it kept cropping up in my mind again and again.
How in heaven’s name were all the parents so cool in the movie?
How? Why?
It doesn’t happen like that in real life, does it?
Here is an extract that kept coming to my mind.
Jai’s mom: Bahut khush khush lag rahe ho Jai. Kya baat hai? (wink wink)
Jai : Kuch nahin mom.
Jm : nahin, kuch toh baat hai….(sweet smile)
Jai : Haan…I have a girlfriend…
Jm : ohh, so nice, kaun hai woh? boms? (and goes on to tell him that this girl like you and so on…typical filmy maa beta scene)
And this is how it kept coming back to me later. (This is how it would have happened at my home)
Mom: Bahut khush khush lag rahe ho Mithun. Kya baat hai?
Me: Kuch nahin, mom. Khaane mein kya hai?
Mom: nahin, kuch toh baat hai…(soul searching smile)
Me: (in a moment of hope for an ideal world) I have a girlfriend.
Mom: (nuclear meltdown)
π
awwwww….. we need the whole description of the nuclear meltdown!!

But the movie’s ok, provided brains are in the “switch off” mode. π
